During School Time
IN-SCHOOL PROGRAM
KDO Teaching Artists and Musicians visit schools around Indianapolis to provide weekly, during-school-time programs for elementary-age children.
With a deep commitment to partnership, KDO works individually with each Partner School to design programming that best meets the needs of their children and school community.
All children in the grade participate in the program.
HOW IT WORKS
- While our focus is grades 3-4, we sometimes offer programming for grades K-2.
- KDO Teaching Artists and Musicians visit schools around Indianapolis to provide weekly, during-school-time programs for elementary-age children.
- KDO works with individual schools to define and meet their unique needs.
- In collaboration, KDO and schools design the programming that best fits their community.
- Programming can be designed as a one-time introductory workshop or a sequential program.
- KDO works with all children at a given grade level, divided into classes.
- A KDO team of Teaching Artists and Musicians will visit the school to lead each class in a dedicated space.
- Classroom teachers are expected to be actively engaged in supporting the program.
- Longer, sequential residencies may culminate in a showcase performance, open to families and the school community, held on-site.

HOW WE TEACH
Kids Dance Outreach’s Teaching Artists are trained in and inspired by the NDI Method®, a renowned arts education pedagogy developed by National Dance Institute. While the NDI Method® serves as the guiding framework for KDO’s teaching approach, all program content, curriculum, and choreography are thoughtfully developed and adapted by KDO’s Team to meet the unique needs of the students and communities we serve.
