Through community partnerships around Indianapolis Kids Dance Outreach strives to share its high-level co-curricular and specialized dance programs with thousands each year. Through KDO’s programs children are inspired by the joy of dance and music as they’re given something positive to focus on, specific goals to attain, a sense of meaningful accomplishment and an appreciation of the Arts. Our programs involve structure and discipline, listening and following instruction skills, persistence, problem solving, cooperation, body awareness, creative expression and the essential importance of caring for each other. While dance is the vehicle, the goal is to provide these young lives with a strong sense of self and the necessary tool kit to face life with the strength to overcome obstacles. Our goal is to help kids discover “they can” and empower them for a lifetime.

ADAPTIVE DANCE

Adaptive Dance gives young children with Down syndrome the opportunity to develop social, emotional and physical skills in a safe environment through the discipline of dance. This is much more than just about learning dance steps, the skills learned will enable students to be successful in the future. Our programs improve focus, listening skills, discipline, social abilities, physicality and ultimately self-confidence that leads to success in school and opens more opportunities later in life. Classes are taught by Kids Dance Outreach Directors and Faculty and supported by licensed physical therapists and professional musicians.

An intake interview is required for all new students and is held prior to the start of the semester. We use information from the registration materials and intake interview to inform our decision and ensure all students in a class will work cohesively and enjoy the Adaptive Dance experience. EXTENSION PROGRAM

KDO Extension Team is a scholarship program offered by invitation only to KDO graduates. Rigorous performance based after-school program, offered yearly and ongoing to students up to 8th grade. Students and their families will experience dance as an extra-curricular activity and are able to further their experiences through dance as part of the community.

SUMMER PROGRAM

Ages: 3rd and 4th graders
*No previous dance experience is necessary.

Every year KDO offers a Summer Session open to any students that would like to participate in our programs and are not necessarily attending a partner school.

During each daily session, participants will receive 2 KDO classes as well as an Enrichment Workshop with a partner organization. The KDO program is a joyfully rigorous class that uses various styles and unique movement vocabulary, allowing students of every level to succeed as dancers and performers. Taught by KDO Teaching Artists and accompanied by live music, students will learn original choreography and perform for parents and peers. Beyond the rudiments of dance, the class also focuses on using the experience to foster confidence and cooperation. The Summer Program will end with a Showcase Performance open to family, friends and community members free of charge. Click to learn more.
